Bucklands Beach Peninsula

A large promontory Bucklands Beach peninsula is bounded by the Tamaki River on the western side and Eastern Beach on the eastern side. Originally a farm owned by Alfred Buckland, located between the beaches, is a well populated residential area with a wide variety and style of housing, many with spectacular views over the Hauraki Gulf. This highly desirable residential area commands high prices. At the top end of the peninsula is Musick Point commemorating Captain Musick and the first flight between America and New Zealand made by a flying boat in 1937. If you're a keen golfer, Howick golf course provides an interesting day's outing. At the Howick end of the peninsula Maclean's reserve provides spectacular views out to Waiheke and the other Gulf Islands.

Eastern Beach

Stretching for a kilometre along the eastern side of the Bucklands Beach peninsula is the aptly named Eastern Beach. A safe swimming beach edged in white sand it is a popular beach with the locals. At the southern end of the beach is Maclean's reserve, with fully formed walking tracks, for those who want a leisurely stroll. In the middle of Eastern Beach is the popular ”Oasis on the Beach” Restaurant, open from 9 a.m. until late on most days of the week, Oasis provides coffee and muffins, delicious lunches, and sumptuous dinners. A further two minutes stroll brings you to “La Mamma” Restaurant. Open every night except Sunday from 6 p.m. this popular eatery provides a great alternative especially midweek with its midweek specials.

Buy Ice cream at the local dairy, buy a paper and catch up with the news.

Bucklands Beach

Less tidal than Eastern Beach, Bucklands Beach bounds the Tamaki River.  A mere two minutes drive brings you to this delightful area.  Stroll along the  Parade, admire the boats, watch the fishermen, take a dip, or enjoy an evening out to the" Barracuda" or fine dining at "The Beach House".  Again there is always the opportunity for ice cream.
